    With car manufacturers racing to get their respective automated technologies on-road, Delphi Automotive PLC successfully completed the first coast-to-coast trip ever taken by an automated vehicle. The longest automated drive in North America, the trip comprised the vehicle traversing about 3,400 miles (5,472Km) from San Francisco to New York with 99 per cent of the drive in completely automated mode.

    The Delphi automated driving vehicle's arsenal of advanced technologies includes, but is not limited to, collision mitigation, integrated radar and camera systems, forward collision and lane departure warning.

    The trip lasted a total of 9 days, and was spread across 15 states and the District of Columbia. It must be noted, that the vehicle experienced several driving situations including construction zones, tunnels, aggressive drivers along with a variety of weather conditions.

    The information collected from this drive will allow the company to develop more advanced active safety relevant technologies. Jeff Owens, Delphi chief technology officer, said, "Our vehicle performed remarkably well during this drive, exceeding our expectations. The knowledge obtained from this trip will help optimize our existing active safety products and accelerate our future product development, which will allow us to deliver unsurpassed automotive grade technologies to our customers."
