GST Cess: Jaguar Increases Prices For Luxury Cars And SUVs

- Prices on the XE, XF and XJ sedan increased, F-Pace SUV also affected
- Prices have been increased ranging from Rs 80,000 to Rs 10 lakh
- Price hike is due to increase in cess from 15 per cent to 20-22 per cent
Following the increase of cess from 15 per cent as part of the original GST rates (43 per cent tax - 28 per cent GST + 15 per cent cess) to 20 per cent cess for luxury cars and 22 per cent cess for SUV, Jaguar India has had to increase prices cross the range. The increase on the cars and SUVs ranges from about Rs 80,000 to about Rs 10 Lakh depending on the model in the Jaguar range in India. The increase in cess has also adversely affected Jaguar's sister brand Land Rover with prices being increased across the board on all the SUVs sold in India. The move to increase prices comes after the GST council took the decision to increase cess on all cars and SUVs that are longer than the 4-metre bracket.

(Jaguar XE)
Here is how each model in the Jaguar range was affected individually:
The Jaguar XE is the least affected in terms of price hike with some models getting a price increase of about Rs 80,000 only. The petrol powered XE was originally priced at Rs 34.64-42.47 lakh when the original GST rates were announced and no priced have been increased to Rs 35.85-43.69 lakh. The diesel powered XE was priced at Rs 35.37-43.21 lakh (post GST) and now costs Rs 36.61-44.72 lakh (ex-showroom). The Jaguar XE classifies as a luxury can and therefore gets a 5 per cent rise in cess as compared to the original GST rates.

(Jaguar XF)
The XF is one of the most popular sedans in the Jaguar range and is available with a 2-litre petrol and 2-litre diesel engine. The 2-litre diesel was originally priced at Rs 44.89-57.25 lakh and is now priced at Rs 46.46-59.25 lakh post the new GST cess rates. The petrol version was priced at Rs 49.66-56.35 lakh with new prices post the cess increase ranging from Rs 51.40-58.35 lakh (ex-showroom).

(Jaguar XJ)
The Jaguar XJ is the range topping luxury limousine in Jaguar's India lineup and is available in only the extended wheelbase model. The petrol powered car was originally priced at just under the 1 crore mark at Rs 97.39 lakh and has now been priced at exactly Rs 1.00 crore. The 3-litre diesel model has been priced at Rs 1.07 crore (ex-showroom) and is the more popular choice for most luxury car buyers.

(Jaguar F-Pace)
The F-Pace has been a very highly acclaimed SUV the world over and has even holds the current 'World Car Of The Year' title. The F-Pace in India only got the diesel engine options, a 2-litre and a 3-litre. The smaller engine 2-litre diesel was priced at Rs 63.37-73.25 lakh and is now priced at Rs 70.67-76.84 lakh post the new GST rates. The larger 3-litre diesel F-Pace available in the launch edition and the R-Line was priced at Rs 1.00-1.10 crore (post GST) and is now priced at Rs 1.05-1.15 crore instead.

(Jaguar F-Type SVR comes in both coupe and convertible)
The Jaguar F-Type is the most expensive Jaguar in the country and it gets a 5 per cent increase in cess as it is classified as a luxury car. The coupe version of the F-Type was originally priced post the new GST announcement ranging from Rs 2.08-2.48 crore (ex-showroom) and is now priced at Rs 2.15-2.57 crore. The convertible on the other hand was originally priced at Rs 2.22-2.62 crore when GST was first announced earlier this year and is now priced at Rs 2.29-2.72 crore instead.
