Helmets Compulsory in Cuttack in Order to Get Fuel

- If you don't wear a helmet, you don't get fuel in Cuttack
- The rule will be implemented from July 1, 2016
- The Police will carry out awareness programmes before the rule is forced
Yes! You read that right! In a good move, the Cuttack Police Commissionerate is all set to implement a 'no helmet, no fuel' rule in the city with effect from July 1, 2016. Of course, the concerned authorities will ensure that they carry out awareness programmes before they implement the rule from June 20, 2016 onwards. The DCP Cuttack, Sanjeev Arora said that the police department will be issuing letters to all petrol pumps, government offices, educational institutes and other such corporations in order to ask them for co-operation for the rule to be successfully implemented. He added that the Police department recently had a meeting with the petrol pump owners as well to gain their co-operation as well.
There will police personnel at petrol pumps so that violations are kept in check. The people who violate the rule will be issued a challan or a fine amount ranging from Rs. 100 to Rs. 500. Odisha already has the cities of Bhubaneshwar, Rourkela and Bargarh where this rule has been implemented with success. Rourkela was the first city to implement this rule in December 2015. Raipur is one more city which has implemented this rule. We believe it is a great initiative to keep accident related fatalities in check. More than 5 lakh road accidents occurred in India last year and Union Minister, Shri Nitin Gadkari has announced that a sum of Rs. 11,000 crore will be made available to rectify over 700 'black spots', which are the major causes road accidents on Indian roads. Furthermore, a group of ministers is also working on recommendations for better road safety.
