How to Jump-Start Your Car

It becomes your responsibility to take care of your car. When it faces a problem, you need to know how to make it work. For example, in case your car battery dies, you should know how to start it. Jumper Cables are the essential things you need at that point. Jump-starting a car is not an easy task to do. It requires a bit of handy work and knowledge.

Most people spend a certain amount of time in their cars. Whether they are going on a long drive for pleasure or simply run errands, they hit the road. But have you ever wondered if you have the basic knowledge regarding vehicle maintenance or repair? With a bit of guidance and some tips and tricks, you can learn how to do almost anything on a car when it comes to repairs.
Having knowledge on jump-starting your car becomes handy when the car battery dies. It is an easy-to-use way to start a car with a flat battery. However, starting your car can cause damage to both cars involved in the process. At the starting point, some cars make loud noises when the battery does not fully engage while you turn the key in the ignition; that time, the battery needs an extra boost. Here is a proper step-by-step guide to teach you to jump-start your car.

Try to find another Vehicle
To jump-start your car, the first thing you need to do is to park your car next to another vehicle. You need to make sure your jumper cables reach the next car. You can park the car with a dead battery in front of another car so that the front bumpers face each other. If you find there is no space or a little space, park the cars alongside so that the car batteries stay close to each other.
Look for the Battery Terminals
After opening the bonnet, find the batteries. After finding it, locate the positive and the negative terminals. Car batteries generally have two metal terminals. The positive is marked with the + sign, whereas the negative is marked with the (-) sign, that you can locate quickly. However, if there is no symbol indicated, look for the red cable that stays connected with the positive cable, and the negative one stays connected with the black cable.
The red clamp connects the (+) terminal for jumper cables, and the black one connects the (-) terminal.
Now it's time to connect!
Separate the jumper cables in such a way that the ends do not touch each other throughout the whole jump-starting process. After connecting with the positive and negative terminal of the other person's car battery, go back to the dead car battery and try to find a grounding piece of metal and attach the final black clamp. It can cause some electrical sparks, but that is normal
Jump-starting the car
Once the cables get connected, start the vehicle and let it run for a couple of minutes. Go to the car with a dead battery and try to start the engine. It takes time to start the engine entirely.
Removing the jumper cable
Now is the time to remove it once you are done jump-starting your car by using the cable. But first, you need to leave the both cars running. Next, while you are going to remove the cable, first remove the black clamp from the car with the dead battery and then undo the red one from another car. Make sure they don't touch each other. Now, as all the clamps are removed, roll up the cables, put them away, and you are ready to go.

To Conclude
Knowing how to jump-start a car is very essential, and safety must always be the priority. While working with the cables, you need to be careful, especially when you are using and removing them. Remember to take some essential car tools with you before hitting the road.
