Taking proper care of your pet while driving around stresses them out a lot less and also means peace of mind for you. Without wasting any more time then, let's take a look at how to make your car pet-friendly.
Set up barriers

Like all of us, long trips can get boring for pets as well. When this happens, your pet will most likely start wandering around in the car, perhaps disturbing you while you drive. That's where barriers come in handy. They are easy to set up and allow you to confine your cat or dog to a particular area of the vehicle. Perhaps the rear seat or the trunk, for instance. This also gives them a sense of territory and helps them stay disciplined inside the vehicle.
Secure your pets

Whether you use barriers or not, it's important to secure your pets for their safety. You can do that with pet-friendly car seats, or by using a harness that attaches to the seatbelt. This also allows you to slide down the windows without worrying about your pet jumping out of the vehicle.
Protect those seats

Animals shed! It's a reality every pet owner has to eventually come to terms with. Travelling around with pets in your car also means that their fur will be all over the seats, making them difficult to clean. However, this can be countered easily with a few ideas. The first one is fairly straightforward, which is to get your pets regularly groomed. That said, if you travel around with your pets very often it's advisable to get dog-proof seat covers so as to protect your stock seats. And if you don't travel with them often, a simple lint roller in the car will come in handy when you want to clean up the fur. A car vacuum cleaner isn't a bad option either.
Crates

Pet crates are the best way to calm down pets that don't have a particular penchant for travelling inside cars. They allow them to snuggle up safely and ride in comfort. Do make sure to buy crates of appropriate sizes though and also make sure that they are secured enough to not move around when the car hits the bumps on the road.

Keep food at the ready

You never know what could delay you on the road, so it's advisable to keep some pet food in your car always. It's even necessary to keep your pets hydrated so don't forget to carry around their water bowls. One can even buy car-friendly water bowls that don't spill when the car is driving on bumpy surfaces.
