Indian Motorcycle Adds Ride Command Infotainment System on 2017 Cruisers

Iconic American bike maker Indian Motorcycle has announced that its 2017 editions of the Chieftain and Roadmaster cruisers will be updated with the new Ride Command infotainment system. The company says that the new infotainment system is the motorcycling's most advanced yet user-friendly system available. The 7-inch high-resolution touchscreen unit is the largest and brightest display that is currently offered on a motorcycle and comes loaded with all the essentials including vehicle diagnostics, Bluetooth, navigation and entertainment options.
Features part of the Ride Command system include customisable information displays, GPS navigation with turn-by-turn directions and points of interest; basic information including clock, air temperature, compass heading, fuel level and fuel range while having a boot time of just about 10 seconds. The touchscreen unit is also glove-compatible with two-finger touch capabilities and also gets the pinch zoom function. You also get smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth that allows phonebook download, incoming call notification with name display, voice activated calling, incoming text notification and much more. There are also immediate launch buttons on the system for easy access and also allow you adjust the audio and decline phone calls.
There are also two trip meters that not only offer the distance traveled, but also ride direction and altitude. Furthermore, the Ride Command system is paired with a 100-watt premium audio system on the Indian Chieftain, while the Roadmaster gets a 200-watt unit, with both models getting touchscreen and handlebar audio controls. Riders can choose the audio source from the AM/FM/Weatherband as well as USB flash drive with song shuffle. The Ride Command system directly competes with Harley-Davidson's Boom!Box system that was introduced in 2014.
Indian Motorcycle also states that map updates will be free for the first three years of ownership, but at present are restricted to the US alone. That being said, the company is planning to provide turn-by-turn directions in other countries as well in multiple languages in the future. Both the Chieftain and Roadmaster are already sold in India imported as CBUs and are priced at Rs. 34.82 lakh and 37.95 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai) respectively.
