Jeep Seven-Seater SUV Spotted Testing In Ladakh

- Jeep's 3-row SUV was spotted in Ladakh undergoing mountain trail testing.
- It is likely to be the seven-seater derivative of the Jeep Compass.
- It is expected to share creature comforts and powertrain options.
It's been a while since we have known that Jeep is planning a seven-seater SUV for the Indian market which will likely go on sale next year. Earlier, the camouflaged prototypes were spotted testing in and around Pune and now a latest series of spy pictures have surfaced online from Ladakh. The SUVs are likely undergoing some mountain trail testing and are conquering some challenging terrains. Rumoured to be called the Jeep Grand Commander, the new SUV will essentially be a three-row version of the Compass, and upon its launch will compete with the likes of the Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner, Isuzu MU-X and the Mahindra Alturas G4.

The upcoming Jeep seven-seater SUV was spotted testing in Pune in earlier.
There is not much that we can talk about the design at this stage, especially considering the amount of camouflage on the SUV. However, we can certainly tell that the SUV will have a big footprint. In terms of styling, the front section of the SUV is expected to take inspiration from the existing compass, however, the profile and the rear section will be different. We do get to see a set of new alloys and what appears to be a set of new sleeker taillamps. Also, unlike the squared wheel arches of the Compass, this one comes with round wheel arches.

The Jeep three-row SUV will most likely adopt the Commander badge.
Now we don't have images of the cabin yet but expect overall layout and creature comforts to be similar to the Jeep Compass. The SUV is also expected to share its powertrain with the Compass, which includes the 2.0-litre diesel engine, which will be mated to either the six-speed manual or nine-speed automatic transmission. The Compass also gets a 1.4-litre MultiAir turbocharged petrol, paired with a six-speed manual or an optional seven-speed DCT, but its too early to confirm if the bigger SUV will get it as well.
