Land Rover Evoque Convertible Revealed

The Evoque borrows its looks from the current model and hence we can safely say that it looks good. The word that follows it is what makes it impressive - convertible. The Evoque, sans the fixed metal roof, makes way for a fully-automated retractable roof that was designed to maintain the original shape.

The Z-fold mechanism for the roof enables a clean look when the roof is down. The soft top will only be available in Ebony Black and with a choice of 13 colours for the body, including the newly added Waitomo Grey metallic and Baltoro Ice.

The roof can be operated via a button on the centre console and can be put up at speeds of up to 48km/h. The folks at Land Rover say that the layer of acoustic insulation implemented in the Evoque Convertible will grant the vehicle the same level of comfort you will find in the regular five-door Evoque.
The Evoque Convertible comes fitted with a roll-over protection device (RPD) which contains a deployable roll-over protection system hidden in the rear quarter panel. In case of a roll-over situation, the RPD will automatically deploy two aluminum bars in just 90 milliseconds to create a potential protection space for occupants.
Standard equipment on the Evoque convertible include halogen head lamps, but those willing to spend the extra buck can opt for xenon or full LED adaptive head lamps. LED daytime running lights and taillights are standard.

Under the hood, the Evoque convertible gets a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine good enough for 240 bhp and 340 Nm of torque. The power is sent to both axles through a 9-speed automatic transmission and can sprint from 0-100km/h in under 8 seconds before topping out at 180km/h.
The inside of the convertible is a familiar one as it is carried over from the standard Evoque but comes with a host of options to choose from. You can go for the 10.2-inch InControl Touch Pro infotainment system instead of the standard 8-inch screen.

You can also upgrade from the 10-speaker 380-watt Meridian unit to a 12-speaker 660-watt Meridian sound system. Other goodies offered inside include rear-seat climate control, Wi-Fi hotspot, parking cameras, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support.
Unlike its 5-door cousin, not many will take the Evoque convertible to rough it out, but if they do decide to go off-roading, Land Rover has equipped it with the Terrain Response system with its four modes (General, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud/Ruts and Sand) which will ensure utmost grip and control.
