Mahindra Says New Scorpio-N Could Outsell the XUV700

Mahindra announced prices for the new Scorpio-N in India recently with cars now starting to arrive at dealerships across the country. Bookings however only open end of July, though the company does have a positive outlook when it comes to expected sales and bookings. The company presently is seeing strong demand for a majority of its SUV line-up with the XUV700 leading the charge with over 80,000 open bookings followed by the Thar with over 26,000. The company says that it currently has over 1.45 lakh open bookings.
Speaking to carandbike at the recent strategic EV investment announcement, Dr Anish Shah, CEO, Mahindra and Mahindra said, “From all the indication we have, from what we’ve been told its going to be bigger than the XUV700 which would be huge.” Mahindra announced prices for all the manual two-wheel drive variants of the Scorpio late last month with prices for the automatics and 4x4 models to be revealed in the coming weeks. Bookings meanwhile only open on July 30 for the first batch of 25,000 units though as per reports some dealers are already accepting bookings for the new SUV.
The Scorpio-N shares its engine options with the XUV700 with the same 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines making their way into the new-gen ladder-frame SUV. The mStallion turbo petrol engine is tuned for 200 bhp and 380 Nm (370 Nm in manual) while the diesel is available with an output of 130 bhp and 300Nm on the base model and a stronger 172 bhp and 370 Nm (400 Nm on the automatic). The diesel will additionally be available with four-wheel drive.

The XUV700 currently racks in a little under 10,000 bookings a month with waiting periods stretching up to almost a year for some variants – something the carmaker is also looking to address. At the time of launch the first and second batch of 25,000 bookings were picked up in record time when the windows opened – in minutes rather than hours.
