India’s longest expressway, the Ganga Expressway will be is all set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 29, 2026. The 594 km Greenfield expressway will be longest such road in the country and will connect the cities of Meerut in the Northwest to Prayagraj in the Southeast in Uttar Pradesh. Once operational the Expressway will reduce the travel time between the two cities from the current 12 hours to approximately 6-7 hours.

Ganga Expressway 1

The Ganga Expressway will allow the vehicles to be driven at speeds of up to 120 km/hr. Starting from Meerut it will pass through the cities of Hapur, Amroha, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Raebareli and Pratapgarh before ending in Prayagraj. A 74 km long route is currently being constructed which will connect Pari Chowk in Greater Noida near the national capital to Bulandshahr on the Ganga Expressway. A 3.5 km long emergency airstrip will also be a part of the expressway and will be located in the town of Shahjahanpur.

Work on the Expressway has been completed in an impressive time of just over 3 years. A progress report shared by Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) on Monday states that 98% of the work on the Expressway is now complete and the main carriageway is 100% ready to be used. The phase 2 of the project aims to connect Haridwar to Meerut (110 km) and Prayagraj to Ballia via Varanasi (314 km).
