Key Highlights
- Mercedes and Porsche museums are together offering a 25% discount
- Porsche and Mercedes collaborated in the 1990s to build the 500E
- The companies will also swap cars to be displayed in each other's museums
If you are a keen follower of the history of Mercedes-Benz cars, then you’ll know that back in the early 1990s, the Stuttgart-based carmaker joined hands with fellow Stuttgartian, Porsche, to build a rare E-Class. Those were the times when Porsche wasn’t doing all that well and Mercedes was looking to outsource a manufacturer for a low-volume project. The outcome was a rare E-Class Super Sedan powered by a V8 engine built entirely at Porsche’s Rossle Bau plant and christened as Mercedes-Benz 500E.
Fast forward to 2016, over two and a half decades later both the rivals have yet again entered into a partnership, but this time the German giants have come together, not to build a car, but to sell tickets. Yes, you read it right. Both Mercedes-Benz and Porsche have their museums in Stuttgart, Germany and with this partnership, the carmakers are trying lure in more customers to their respective museums with a special offer.
Apparently, people who are visiting Mercedes-Benz’s museum in Bad Cannstatt can get a 25 per cent discount on their ticket if they have a recent ticket stub from the Porsche museum. Similarly, if the person is visiting the Porsche museum in Zuffenhausen, then that person will avail a 25 per cent discount on the ticket by producing the ticket stub from the Mercedes-Benz’s museum. Additionally, both the museums are already offering the tickets on discounted rates and with this additional 25 per cent discount visitors can get an 8 Euro for 4 Euro, which is, in fact, a very good deal.
Additionally, both Mercedes and Porsche museums will be swapping cars next month, with a 1966 W111 230 S to be showcased at Porsche’s museum, while the 1975 911 Carrera 2.7 will be on display at the Mercedes museum. The offers are valid until December 30 and both museums will be open from Tuesday to Sunday and can be visited between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm.
