Mercedes-Benz EQB Electric SUV India Launch Details Revealed

Mercedes-Benz India is on an electric offensive, as the company recently launched its second electric product, the high-performance Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4Matic+ in the country at Rs. 2.45 crore (ex-showroom). As part of its electric onslaught, the Indian arm of the German carmaker will next launch the Mercedes-Benz EQB 7-seater electric SUV. In a recent interaction with car&bike, Martin Schwenk, MD & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India revealed that the new luxury electric SUV will arrive in India this festive season, as early as November this year. Martin Schwenk, MD & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India said. “We come with practical cars. We will also add even more practical vehicle, which is the Mercedes-Benz EQB electric SUV that is about three months away from its launch. Till now, we didn’t have a car in the luxury seven-seater segment, but I’m happy that the first car that we will introduce is an electric car. It’s a completely new venture and I'm very excited, very optimistic.”

Inside, the cabin shares its design with some of Mercedes’ newer SUVs with a wide free-standing display unit sitting atop a shelf like cut-out on the dashboard.
Positioned below the Mercedes-Benz EQC in global markets, the Mercedes-Benz EQB will be Mercedes’ third electric model for India. Based on the firm’s GLB SUV, the EQB follows the same upright design as the former, but with some EQ design elements thrown into the mix to make it more recognisable as an electric vehicle. The EQB features a closed off grille, housing the prominent Mercedes star, flanked by angular swept back headlamps. The EQB also sits on unique wheels while the at rear the tail-lamps in comparison to the regular GLB are sleeker and connected by a full-width light bar.

In terms of size, the Mercedes-Benz EQB measures in about 100 mm shorter than the EQC in length with the wheelbase shorter by about 44 mm. Inside, the cabin shares its design with some of Mercedes’ newer SUVs with a wide free-standing display unit sitting atop a shelf like cut-out on the dashboard. The displays house the digital instrument cluster and the central touchscreen running the company’s MBUX software with physical controls for the air-con positioned below.

The Mercedes-Benz EQB will be a 7-seater electric SUV.
Globally, the Mercedes-Benz EQB is available with three powertrain options – the 250, 300 and 350 with the latter two being all-wheel drive with each axle powered by an electric motor. The EQB 250 develops 188 bhp and 385 Nm from its single motor set-up with these numbers climbing to 225 bhp and 390 Nm in the all-wheel drive 350 4Matic. The range topping GLB 350 4Matic meanwhile delivers 288 bhp and 520 Nm. All variants use a 66.5 kWh battery pack.
