MG Motor India Future Plans: Highlights

Morris Garages or MG Motor is a British car manufacturer which is now owned by China based SAIC Corp, the largest auto manufacturer in China, and will soon begin selling its cars in India. MG Motors India's first launch will be an SUV, which it will launch in the second quarter of 2019. Rajeev Chhaba, MD, MG Motor India giving us a view of what the company has in store for India. In fact, MG Motor will be launching one new product every year, beginning in 2019. The company has already taken over GM’s plant in Halol, Gujarat and had earlier revealed that it will be making an initial investment of Rs. 2,000 crore and have an annual capacity of manufacturing 80,000 units per year, to begin with. Over the next six years, MG Motors plans to invest Rs. 5,000 crores in India.

MG Motor said that the first car from the facility will roll out sometime in 2019. The manufacturing facility is spread over 170 acres and will get a full upgrade before the actual manufacturing begins. Currently, MG has hired 1,000 personnel in India. Also, MG says that a number of new jobs will be created along with indirect jobs in the state of Gujarat. The gender diversity at MG Motor stands at 22 per cent and the company would like to increase the same to 35 per cent, which means hiring more female personnel. The company is looking to have close to 300 touch points in India over the next few years. These include dealerships and service centres.
