Nissan Previews Next-Gen ADAS Technology

- New-gen ADAS tech to hit markets by middle of the decade.
- Nissans plans to have tech in all cars by 2030.
- Development of new-gen driver aid tech part of Nissan Ambition 2030 plan.
Nissan has previewed its next-gen ProPilot advanced driver aids that will be available in its future models. The company says that its new technology uses a mix of lidar technology, radars and cameras to provide the car's brain with highly accurate, real-time information about the vehicle's surroundings and initiate avoidance manoeuvres by itself.
“When we look at the future of autonomous driving, we believe that it is of utmost importance for owners to feel highly confident in the safety of their vehicle. We are confident that our in-development ground truth perception technology will make a significant contribution to owner confidence, reduced traffic accidents and autonomous driving in the future,” said Takao Asami, Senior Vice President, leading global research and development at Nissan Motor Co.

New ADAS system uses a new-gen Lidar sensor along with radars and cameras to paint a real time picture of the vehicle's surroundings
Dubbed the “ground truth perception” by Nissan, the new technology is able to paint a real-time picture of the car's surroundings helping it not only identify situations in quick time but also evade an imminent collision by steering inputs or slamming on the brakes. In a related video, Nissan showcased a number of situations where the technology could work including avoiding incoming vehicles or even taking measures to identify and avoid flying debris.
Nissan also says that its next-gen tech will also be able to identify obstacles from a distance and take corrective action including initiating a lane change.

Nissan says its tech will be able to identify and avoid collisions in real time.
For its technology, Nissan has teamed up with Luminar to help develop its new generation of Lidar sensors. The company has meanwhile also partnered with Applied Intuition to help develop the software that will bring its system together and help it detect and avoid obstacles on the road.
Nissan is aiming to have its new ADAS system ready for road use by the middle of this decade with all its cars equipped with this system by 2030.
