'No Helmet, No Petrol' For Two-Wheeler Owners In Nashik From August 15

Two-wheeler commuters in Nashik will soon be unable to purchase petrol if they are not wearing a helmet. According to the notification issued by the Commissioner of Police Deepak Pandey, fuel stations in the city will apply the 'No helmet, no petrol' policy from August 15, 2021. The initiative is aimed to encourage more riders to wear a helmet on a two-wheeler. The decision has been taken on the recommendation of ACP (Traffic).

The rule will need to be followed at every fuel station across the city. Only in exceptional cases, fuel will be given to a motorcyclist if they aren't wearing a helmet. Even then, the petrol station will have to get a form filled by the customer that will be then sent to the city police and the Deputy Regional Transport Order, who will verify the reason for not wearing a helmet.

The city police will beef up security at fuel stations across Nashik to ensure strict implementation
If the officials find the answer unsatisfactory, the customer could have their driving licence suspended by the RTO. In order to ensure enforcement of the new rule and to maintain the law and order, the police will deploy extra personnel at fuel stations for the first two weeks once the order has been implemented. Depending on the response, the police will then decide if they need to retain or remove the additional security.
India has one of the highest road accidents in the world, and a larger of these occur on a two-wheeler. While the government officials are doing their bit to increase awareness and enforce rules, motorists also need to make sure that they follow all rules and wear the correct safety gear irrespective of the distance they need to travel.
