Odd-Even Rule: Over Rs. 2 Crore Collected in Fines
Delhi government says it collected over Rs. 2 crore in fines under the purview of the 15-day long odd even rule in the national capital. The traffic police issued over 10,000 challans to violators of the scheme that ended on last week. One must note that the fines collected under the odd-even scheme will be used to provide subsidy on purchase of cycles.

According to official data, the Sub Divisional Magistrates (SDM) fined 5,582 motorists, while the Delhi Traffic police penalised about 2,870 people for violating the rule enforced to curb Delhi's growing pollution.

Under the car-rationing scheme, the government had specified a penalty of Rs. 2,000 penalty via relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act for each violation of the restrictions that were rolled out on January 1 and remained in force between 8 AM to 8 PM during weekdays till January 15, 2016. Furthermore, violating vehicles were also not allowed to enter or exit parking lots maintained by Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Public Works Department (PWD), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), Delhi Cantonment Board, and municipal bodies.
