Renault Kwid AMT Launched; Priced At Rs. 4.25 Lakh

First showcased at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo, the Renault Kwid AMT has been launched in India at Rs. 4.25 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Kwid is a volume driver for the company and in a short span of time, it has already sold more than a lakh cars in India. The company had already launched the Kwid with a more powerful 1.0-litre engine and we’ve driven it and told you all about it.
The AMT version then adds to the growing list of variants based on the Kwid. The introductory price of the car makes it Rs. 30,000 more expensive than the manual variant as the top-end RXT (optional) costs Rs. 3.95 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). You Can Know More About Renault Kwid AMT.
There Are No Cosmetic Changes Made To The AMT Variant
Speaking on the launch of Kwid AMT, Sumit Sawhney, Country CEO and Managing Director, Renault India Operations, said, “Looking at evolving customer preferences, AMT technology is becoming popular in the compact hatchback segment and we are happy to build on our portfolio by launching the KWID AMT. With this launch, we look forward to welcoming more customers into the Renault family as we endeavour to aggressively build our presence in India.”
The Rotary Gear Shifter On The Kwid AMT Takes A Little Getting Used To
The 5-speed Automated Manual Transmission or Easy-R, as Renault calls it, makes it easier to drive in traffic conditions. We’ve driven it extensively and have told you all about it. While there are certain limitations that it brings with it, the AMT is quite refined and adds to the ‘convenience’ aspect of the car. The AMT will only be offered on the top-end RXT variant.
The Cabin Of The Kwid AMT Is Spacious And Comes With A Bunch Of Features
Unlike the gearshift that you see in most cars, the Kwid gets a rotary dial and this means there’s a lot of space saved between the driver and the co-passenger seats which makes way for cubby holes. The car also gets features like a MediaNav multimedia & navigation system and the rest of the features which are similar to what we see on the 1.0-litre RXT variant.
The AMT Is More Fuel Efficient Than The Manual
Under the hood is a 1.0-litre petrol engine which churns out 67 bhp and 91 Nm of torque. The claimed fuel efficiency for the AMT is 24.04 Km/l. Now mind you, the one with the Manual Transmission returned a fuel efficiency figure of 23.01Km/l and so Renault claims that the AMT is more fuel efficient than the manual.
