Road Etiquette For Motorcyclists

Motorcycles are more prone to accidents than cars. Given this fact both motorcycle riders and car drivers need to follow some mandated as well a few unsaid rules of the road to keep each other safe. If you are a motorcycle rider you should adhere to some of these rules or etiquettes of the road. Here are ones you should note:

Ride Defensively

As a motorcycle rider you have to understand that bigger vehicles many not notice you at all times. In this case you should be vigilant and see that your speed doesn't create a crash with the car ahead. If you find yourself in a speed off, allow the bigger vehicle to move on as they might not be noticing that they're speeding near you. Honk at appropriate times and drive carefully.

Keep to Your Left
It is mandated by the rules that bike riders keep to their left while riding. If you want to change lanes or cross to the other side of the road, you should give proper indicator to the side that you want to move to. Once you give the indicators, slow down or stop to observe the traffic. Make your move when the traffic clears out or the cars and other bikes are too far away to crash into you while you are crossing.

Carry the Passenger Safely
Instruct the passenger on the pillion seat to maintain balance and patience while the ride is going on. If your pillion rider is fidgety and distracting, there is more chance of you losing focus and misbalancing the bike. That's why both you and the pillion rider should understand road safety rules and follow them.

Going Faster is Not Cooler
You have to remember that staying safe, taking account of the other people on the road and maintaining road rules is necessary for a great biking experience. Riding faster than the recommended limit can not only lead you to commit road safety violations but also put your life in danger. Stay in the speed limit to reach your destination safely without any obstacles.

Take Rest Stops
If you're taking a long road trip, it is better to plan in advance and identify the rest stops on the way. Fatigue can be dangerous when you're on the road for long hours as you're exhausting energy that needs to be refilled. Exhausted riders can lose focus easily which can have fatal impact. Make sure to sleep and eat well if you're on the road for a longer time.

Keeping in mind such safety rules ensures that you reach your destination safely and also do not bother others while riding. Where you are riding at a high speed you should always remain careful.
