Famed custom motorcycle builder Roland Sands took a new Indian Scout model and turned it into a bespoke beauty. The RSD Scout is a tribute to the pared-back Indian Scout motorcycles from 1920s to 1950s when these motorcycles made their name on racetracks all around the US.

The motorcycle in question uses the 1,200cc engine from the Scout and gets a custom tubular steel chassis along with Ohlins TTX mountain-bike suspension at both ends. This gives a distinct modern look to the overall design which is actually inspired from the board tracker style that was in vogue in the 1920s. The radiator is new too and Roland Sands also made a faux oil sump which actually is a housing for all the electronics. A clever touch we think. The stainless steel exhaust is also custom made along with the frame, forks and the swingarm. The details have been lovingly powder coated in Indian's gorgeous vintage red colour. One can also see golden accents done by hand on the handlebars and other parts of the motorcycle. The frame is lightweight and makes use of a much more aggressive geometry with lesser rake.

Roland Sands says that madness is an inherent part of what he does and the Scout project is perhaps the best example; which is why he was happy enough to deconstruct a stock Indian Scout, a compact cruiser, and turned it into a board-tracker of yore as it started out as a racing motorcycle. He says that the Indian Scout brings that kind of racing heritage and it should be treated likewise.

The motorcycle made its debut at Biarritz, France, at the Wheels and Waves custom show and garnered rave reviews there.
