Tesla Delivers Record 241,300 EVs In Q3 2021

- Tesla delivered 241,300 vehicles in the quarter
- It did so despite the semiconductor shortage and other production issues
- Deliveries will be higher in Q4 as Berlin Gigafactory starts operations
Tesla has announced its Q3 2021 earnings report which has revealed record deliveries of 241,300 vehicles which has happened despite the ongoing global semiconductor crisis. This comes after CEO and co-founder Elon Musk announced to his employees that this had been the craziest month of deliveries they have ever had. Musk revealed that due to production issues and supply limitations, some deliveries had been pushed back. So the achievement is quite admirable considering the issues. It overall delivered 9,275 Model S and X units while the bulk of the sales were driven by the more affordable Model 3 and Y units of 232,035. Production was lower in the quarter than the delivered vehicles as they had bumped many vehicles produced from Q2 to Q3.

Tesla is on track to deliver over a million vehicles in a year
That being said, these numbers were slightly higher than the numbers from Q2. In fact, Tesla also produced more vehicles in the quarter -- 237,832 compared to 206,,421 from the previous quarter. Analysts had predicted that Tesla would deliver around 222,700 vehicles, but Tesla beat the number by around 20,000 units.
Importantly, Tesla has also started to show a significant ramp-up in the production of the Model S which is its flagship vehicle and was recently updated in 2021. Tesla's figures are expected to be even better thanks to the fact that its Berlin Gigafactory is going online which will enable a ramp-up in Tesla Model Y units. If that happens, Tesla will likely have more than 1 million electric car deliveries in 2021 alone.
