Adventure bikes are becoming more and more popular among Indian riding enthusiasts right now, especially in the entry-level space. Over the last few years, we have witnessed the launch of several small- and mid-capacity adventure bikes in India that have seen great success. Even commuter bikes wearing adventure clothing like the Honda CB200X or the new Suzuki V-Strom SX, have been welcomed. So, if you too are planning to enter the world of adventure riding, and looking for an ADV bike, but on a tight budget then might we suggest looking at the used vehicle market? Here are 5 adventure motorcycles that we think you should consider buying used.
Royal Enfield Himalayan
Depending on the model year and its condition, you can get a used Himalayan for anywhere between Rs. 90,000 to Rs. 2.25 lakh,
The Royal Enfield Himalayan was the motorcycle that popularised small adventure bikes among the masses. First launched in 2016, the motorcycle became an instant success as a purpose-built motorcycle for adventure touring that did not break the bank. The bike comes with a 411 cc single cylinder engine that makes 24.3 bhp and 32 Nm of peak torque, while mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The bike comes with long-travel suspension, 21-inch front wheels and switchable ABS. Depending on the model year and its condition, you can get a used Himalayan for anywhere between Rs. 90,000 to Rs. 2.25 lakh, however, we would suggest going for a more recent model, preferably the BS6 version of the Himalayan.
KTM 390 Adventure
You can get a used KTM 390 Adventure for around Rs. 2.6 lakh to Rs. 3.5 lakh.
Globally, KTM has been one of the foremost brands in the adventure motorcycling space. So, the brand’s decision to launch an adventure bike in India was inevitable, and the KTM 390 Adventure was the first bike to be introduced by the company. The bike comes with alloys instead of spoked wheels, so yes, it is slightly road-biased, however, it handles bad terrains with quite a bit of ease. It’s powered by a 373 cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that makes 43 bhp and 37 Nm of torque, while mated to a 6-speed gearbox. You can get a used one for around Rs. 2.6 lakh to Rs. 3.5 lakh.
BMW G 310 GS
You can get a used BMW G 310 GS for around Rs. 2.3 lakh to Rs. 3 lakh.
The BMW G 310 GS is the smallest adventure bike from the Bavarian marquee, and like the KTM, this too is more of a tourer rather than an off-roader. It’s powered by a 313 cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that makes 33.5 bhp and a peak torque of 28 Nm, while mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The newer model also gets an electromotive throttle controller that prevents engine stalling by increasing the idle engine speed automatically, and a sensor on the throttle grip sends commands directly to the ECU to offer better throttle response and revs. You can get a used BMW G 310 GS for around Rs. 2.3 lakh to Rs. 3 lakh.
KTM 250 Adventure
You can get a used KTM 250 Adventure for anywhere between Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 2.5 lakh.
The KTM 250 Adventure is a quarter-litre version of the 390 Adventures, featuring the same design and styling, almost the same features and ADV capabilities. The 250 Adventure gets a dual-channel with off-road mode wherein you can turn off the ABS for the rear tyre. However, it misses out on the ride-by-wire tech that the 390 Adventure gets. The KTM 250 Adventure gets a 248 cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that makes 29.5 bhp and 24 Nm of peak torque. The motor is paired with a 6-speed gearbox and comes with an assist and slipper clutch. You can get a used KTM 250 Adventure for anywhere between Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 2.5 lakh.
Hero Xpulse 200
Based on its condition you can get a used Hero Xpulse 200 for anywhere between Rs. 85,000 to Rs. 1.2 lakh.
The Hero Xpulse 200 is the most accessible and affordable ADV motorcycle you can buy right now. The bike is lightweight, comes with strong off-road capabilities, and dirt-bike-inspired design and styling. It’s powered by a 199 cc single-cylinder oil-cooled engine that makes 17.8 bhp and peak torque of 16.45 Nm of peak torque, while mated to a 5-speed gearbox. While right now the company also sells a slightly more powerful and improved Xpulse 200 4V, which comes with a 4-valved engine as opposed to the older 2-valved motor, you are likely to get the older model in higher numbers in the used vehicle market. And based on its condition you can get one for anywhere between Rs. 85,000 to Rs. 1.2 lakh.
