Trek to Dudhsagar Falls - The Perfect Recipe for Thrill and Refreshment in Goa

- A good time to travel to Dudhsagar Falls is during monsoon months.
- Dudhsagar can also be visited from Karnataka and Bangalore.
- Trekking from Goa to Dudhsagar has been recently banned.
Located about 26.9 km from the Goa, the Dudhsagar trek is something you should not miss at all. Dudhsagar is mainly known for the water falls there which is a treat to watch. In addition to that, this 12 km trek can be quite fun with your friends and family. It takes about 12 hours to complete the trek, all of which is all fun and games when with your loved ones. Traversing through the green dense forests, finally reaching an elevation point of 310m from the mean sea level not only leaves your mesmerized but gives you a sense of success.

How to reach Dudhsagar falls from Goa?
Reaching the Dudhsagar falls from Goa used to be rather easy, but with the recent ban on the trek along the railway tracks, it has become a bit more complicated. However, there is an easy alternative that you can choose in case you want to visit the Dudhsagar falls. Firstly you will have to travel to the main entrance of the Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary, which lies at a walking distance of about 12-15 minutes from the Kollem Railway Station.
Here you will find jeeps that will take you directly to the waterfall. In case you have sometime on your hands or are waiting for your friends, you can roam the Sanctuary a bit. However, you will have to pay an entry fee of 20 INR and 300 INR to 5000 INR more for photography and videography permissions respectively.
In case if you are going to directly book the jeep, an entire jeep will cost you around 2500 INR. It is advised that you do not do that if you are not a big group of people going together. If you are travelling solo or with two or three other people, you can pay per head and share the jeep with other travelers, which is the more common thing to do here. The per head cost is much more reasonable at 400 to 450 INR.
The whole ride, till the base of the warte3rfall takes roughly about 48 minutes. It is important to know that road trail chosen is quite bumpy and can be dangerous and scary for inexperienced drivers. This is why it is best if you refrain from taking your own car. In addition to that, there are multiple streams cris-crossing along the road, which makes a 4WD sturdy jeep the best car to travel there.
Once you have reached the base, you have already completed 90% of your journey. From here, it will take you about 5 minutes to reach the waterfall. The car service usually gives the passengers 1 hour and sometimes more to enjoy the beauty of the waterfall. Once done they will bring you back to where you started from.

What to take on the trek?
Now that you have already understood how you can reach the waterfalls easily, it is time to understand how you should pack for the trek. Firstly, if you are travelling during the monsoon season, you should always take your monsoon gear. Many a times, people think you will later rent some articles, but that is not always possible.
However, you should also make sure that your bag is not too heavy and the contents in it are rather light. This will help you not tire yourself out on the trek and make for a easy and fun trip. You should also not forget to take your water bottle, utensils and some other clothes, if you think you might have to change. If you are travelling with other people, make space for a camera. You will surely not want to miss the beautiful moments, not just at the top, but during the trek as well. Other than that, you can carry certain personal items you want to take there.

To sum up
Dudhsagar falls can be quite an exciting trek if done with the right preparation and motive. It is surely a place you will love and more importantly the journey there. The deep forests and breathtaking sights there are something you should not miss out on if you are close by. Rest assured, make sure you are careful during the trek and take enough stops in between.
