Triumph Street Triple to Get a Bigger Engine

The Street Triple has always been revered as one of the maddest motorcycles in its class. A favourite of motorcycle stuntmen and enthusiasts who have a thing for naked, streetfighter style of motorcycles, the current generation Street Triple has been around for quite some time now. Triumph has already updated its 'Modern Classics' range with the Street Twin, T120 and the Thruxton. Now, the Street Triple is poised to get a revamp with a new line-up.
There have been rumours that the Street Triple was all set to get a bigger, meaner engine and from what is seen in the spy pictures, they might be not that baseless. Triumph has conducted customer surveys and the overall summary of the research say that it will be great if the engine goes above 750cc. The UK based manufacturer had conducted an online survey a year ago whose conclusions were that the next generation Street Triple will have four models and have an engine with a displacement higher than 750cc.
(2018 Triumph Street Triple)Although, the photographs are grainy, but we can say that the engine doing duty on the test mule is not just a revised version of the existing machine but is all new too. For example, the casting of the cylinder head bolts is different from that of the current models. Also, the engine and clutch covers are new. These differences are testimony enough to the fact that the new Street Triple will have a new engine and more juice. Another change that is quite visible is the swingarm. It is differently designed than the ones on the current models. It is similar to the trellis sub-frame. The rear seat is a bit different too, with new grab rails. The bar-end mirrors and the headlamps are reminiscent of the 2016 Speed Triple 1050.
According to reports, there will be 4 models of the Street Triple that will be introduced, including a touring 'RT' version, which will feature a half-fairing. All the motorcycles will have ABS. The top two models will also get switchable traction control and different riding modes along with tyre-pressure monitoring system, a new stability control and a high-resolution TFT screen as well.
The new Street Triple is said to have Nissin brakes and Kayaba suspension on the base model, Nissin radials and Showa forks on the more expensive R model. The top-of-the-line RT model will get Brembo brakes and Ohlins suspension. There will be 3 different states of tuning for the engine. The engine on the base model will make around 110bhp, the middle (R) variant will have 115bhp while the RS and the RT will have close to 120bhp on tap.
The next generation Street Triple will be launched sometime in the middle of 2017, which means that it will come to India towards the end of 2017 or so.
