Two-Wheeler Sales December 2017: Honda Posts 77 Per Cent Growth

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India had a very successful 2017. It is the first time that the company crossed the 5 million sales mark in a calendar year with 57, 94,893 units sold from January 2017 till December 2017. In the month of December 2017, the company sold 3, 63,226 units domestically which is a massive 77 per cent growth from December 2016's sales of 2, 05,158 units. The total sales for December 2017 was 3, 90,430 units, which is a growth of 68 per cent over December 2016's total sales of 231,763 units. This was the highest year-on-year month growth in 2017 for HMSI. The exports too grew by 2 per cent in December 2017 with 27,194 units exported. The company exported 26,605 units in December 2016.

Honda sold 2, 38,818 scooters in December 2017 showing a growth of 57 per cent over December 2016, when it sold 1, 51,758 units. The motorcycles sales too grew from 53,400 units in December 2016 and grew by 133 per cent, selling 1, 24,408 units in December 2017. For the period of April-December 2017, the company sold a total of 46, 45,808 units as compared to 38,59,175 units in April-December 2016, showing a growth of 20 per cent.

Commenting on Honda's performance in 2017, Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Senior Vice President - Sales & Marketing, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Accelerated customer buying shift within segments saw scooters becoming popular in the traditionally motorcycle dominated states too. New capacity expansion, 3 new product launches and increased network penetration in tier II and tier III markets resulted in Honda successfully breaching the 5 million sales mark for the first time in 2017.
