Indian Chief Dark Horse Review

The brand new matte black finish on the Dark Horse lends it character despite the lack of chrome on the bike. With that being said, it still gets as much attention as those cruisers filled with bling. The big bulgy tank and the front cowl around the headlights highlight the 'darkness'. The instrument cluster with the analog speedometer and part digital meter is well located on top of the fuel tank (even an ignition button that even some cars don't get). The chrome makes its appearance on the long exhaust and a bit on the fenders. The seat is low and wide, the handlebars pulled back typical cruiser style with the foot-boards completing the look.

The Indian Chief Dark Horse comes alive with a strong thumping note as you turn on the ignition. The 1811 cc V twin engine eagerly prances forward as you hit the highway and hit three digit speeds in no time. Over 100bhp of maximum power is delivered ever so smoothly and the 139Nm torque-y motor lets you be comfortable in higher gears at low speeds. The six speed gearbox leaves little to complain about but trust me once on the open highway there will be little shifting to do.
But like most cruisers, it won't serve you any purpose in city traffic conditions as the heat from the engine and the weight can make it uncomfortable. But don't fret as this cruiser grips and brakes well and the suspension manages to deal with patchy roads. The long wheelbase can make it a bit dicey to make sharp turns but the Indian Chief Dark Horse handles with confidence on wide turns.
Priced at Rs. 21.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Dark Horse is a full blooded pricey cruiser that offers class and attitude. This black beauty stands out amidst all that chrome you get tired of in the big cruiser segment.
