Best Hatchbacks In India Under Rs. 10 lakh

- More than a dozen hatchbacks are available in sub Rs. 10 lakh bracket
- Major players like Maruti, Tata and Hyundai dominate this space
- Renault, Citroen and Toyota also have their offerings here
Hatchbacks are still an integral part of Indian car market despite the recent dominance of SUVs of all shapes and sizes. Some of country’s major carmakers like Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors and Hyundai still get a good chunk of their sales from hatches as they offer everything from affordability to practicality and are easier to drive too. Here we list out 5 such hatchbacks which offer great value for money and are feature rich as well.
Maruti Suzuki Swift (Rs. 5.79 lakh to 8.80 lakh)
First on the list is the India’s iconic hatchback the Swift. The brand new generation of the hot hatch was launched in 2024 which came with a new 1.2 litre 3-cylinder engine that offers even better fuel efficiency than earlier. The car is feature-rich too and gets both manual and AMT options apart from CNG variants. It continues to clock impressive sales numbers despite facing stiff competition in segment. Other hatches from Maruti Suzuki in the market include Baleno, Wagon R, Celerio, Alto and India’s most affordable car, the S-Presso.

Hyundai Grand i10 Nios (Rs. 5.47 lakh to 7.91 lakh)
Swift’s main rival in the market, the Grand i10 Nios itself has being wooing customers to the brand showrooms for a long time. It starts at a lower price point than the Swift yet feels equally premium if not more. The Nios too runs on a 1.2 litre Petrol engine that is mated with either a manual or an AMT gearbox. This one also gets CNG variants but the dual-cylinder tech here liberates more boot space thereby making it a little more practical. In terms of looks, the Nios feels a little dated but a new-gen model due soon could change that.
Tata Altroz (Rs. 6.30 to Rs. 10.51 lakh)
The premium end of the hatch segment is also quite busy with the presence of cars like the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza and Hyundai i10. But the Tata Altroz races ahead with the sheer number of drivetrain options it comes with. It has both Petrol and Diesel options and the higher trims also come with a dual clutch gearbox enhancing the performance of the hatch. In all there are 22 variants to choose from including CNG models. Post GST rate cuts the Altroz has become cheaper by as much as Rs. 1 lakh. It is also India’s safest hatch with a 5-star rating from Bharat NCAP.

Renault Kwid (Rs. 4.30 lakh to Rs. 6 lakh)
The Renault Kwid has been around for a while and is still going strong. Sporty looks, commanding drive position and spacious cabin have been some of its attributes that have pulled buyers towards it. The Kwid runs on a 1.0 Petrol engine that is available with both manual and AMT options. It lacks some features seen in the cars listed above but remember it also starts and ends at lower price points which make it a good looking, value for money option in the market.
Citroen C3 (Rs. 5.25 to Rs. 9.89 lakh)
Finally an underrated yet worthy option in the sub 10 lakh hatch segment is the Citroen C3. The C3 was recently updated with some new features along with a new sportier looking X variant which runs on the more powerful turbo Petrol engine. Most trims get a 5-speed manual gearbox while the top turbo also comes with a 6-speed torque convertor Automatic. The C3 prices too have dropped by almost Rs.1 lakh post the GST cuts which has made it an appealing option in the segment.
