2018 Hyundai Santro Spotted In India

- The 2018 Hyundai Santro is codenamed Hyundai AH internally
- The 2018 Hyundai Santro will be more upmarket in design & features
- The new Hyundai Santro will be launched in India around mid-2018
A partially camouflaged test mule of the 2018 Hyundai Santro was recently spotted in India. The older Santro was officially discontinued in India in 2014 and now, Hyundai is gearing up to revive the nameplate with an all-new car. This is the first image of the near-production all-new Hyundai Santro, and it is set to be launched in India next year. Expected to be launched around mid-2018, the all-new Santro is could even be showcased at the Auto Expo 2018. Upon launch, it will rival the likes of Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Renault Kwid, and Tata Tiago.

The previous Hyundai Santro was in production from 1998 to 2014 in India
In this new spy photo, we can only see the rear three-quarter of the car, which to an extent largely resembles the Grand i10. This could mean that the new Santro could borrow certain design and styling cues from the latter. The car still carries its characteristic tall boy stance, and the car also gets larger window panes, which means the cabin will have a bit of a roomy feeling. Furthermore, the test mule is seen with full wheel cover on steel wheels, now this could be one of lower variants and top-end model might get alloys, or Hyundai might not offer one at all to keep the cost low. The cabin will also come with some modern elements and could possibly include a touchscreen infotainment in the top-end model.
Powertrain wise it's too soon to comment on anything but based on segment trend we expect to see a 0.8-litre and 1.0-litre engine options with transmission duties to be carried out by a 5-Speed Manual Transmission. Hyundai might also consider offering an AMT option, seeing the growing demand for automatic entry-level cars in India, but nothing is confirmed yet.
Coming to pricing department, the all-new Santro will be the volume churner for Hyundai India and this will be priced quite aggressively. We expect the new Hyundai Santro to come with an introductory starting price of Rs. 3.5 lakh.
