Citroen is all set to foray into the competitive Indian car market with its new 2021 C5 AirCross SUV, which was recently revealed. The French carmaker also released key specifications and other details of its first offering for India. Likely to be launched in the coming weeks, the 5-seater SUV will hit our shores as CKD (Completely Knocked Down) model. The automaker has begun the commercial production of the SUV at its facility in Thiruvallur, Tamil Nadu. Once launched, it will compete against the likes of Hyundai Tucson and the Jeep Compass. Here's how the recently unveiled C5 AirCross stacks up against its existing rivals on paper.

The 2021 Citroen C5 AirCross is the biggest SUV among its competition
Dimensions:
In terms of dimensions, the C5 AirCross is the biggest one among all four rivals with a length of 4500mm, width of 2099 mm and height of 1710 mm. It comes with a wheelbase of 2730 mm. Citroen's halo offering is closely followed by the Hyundai Tucson, which measures 4480 mm in length, 1850 mm of width and 1660 mm of height. On the other hand, the Jeep Compass comes with a total length of 4405 mm, the width of 1818 mm, and a height of 1640 mm. The Kia Seltos is the smallest of the lot, with length, width and height at - 4315 mm, 1800 mm and 1620 mm respectively. The newly revealed Citroen C5 AirCross gets the longest wheelbase followed by Hyundai Tucson (2670 mm).

On the inside, the SUV gets a nicely designed cabin layout which is underlined by premium soft-touch material and well-equipped dashboard. It gets an 8-Inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 6-speaker audio system, steering mounted controls, upholstery options with advanced comfort seats, dual-zone climate control, park assist function, electrically adjustable driver seat, panoramic sunroof, keyless entry, push-button start and more. As for safety, the SUV packs 6 airbags, electronic stability programme, hill start assist, hill descent control, traction control, Blind Spot Information System, Electric Parking Brake, Front & Rear Parking Sensors, ISOFIX mounts, and reverse camera.

Hyundai Tucson, on the other hand, comes with an all-black cabin sporting leather upholstery, an 8-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, BlueLink connectivity car technology, engine start/stop, climate control, door lock/unlock and voice recognition, electrically adjustable front seats, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, hands-free tailgate and more.
The updated Jeep Compass SUV now gets all-black interior giving a much premium look to the dashboard. It comes with a larger 10.1-inch touchscreen display with U-Connect 5, new steering wheel, a new 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, new ventilated, power-adjustable front seats, panoramic sunroof, 360-degree cameras, wireless charging, power tailgate, ABS with EBD, ESC, electronic parking brakes, ISOFIX child seat mounts, traction control, dual airbags, seat belt reminder rear parking sensors with rear camera, high start assist and rear wiper and defogger as standard.
Kia Seltos comes loaded with features like LED Sound mood lights, ambient lighting, a smart 8.0-inch heads-up display, flat-bottom steering wheel, a 10.25-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, advanced 7-inch colour display for the instrument cluster, Bose Sound System with 8-speakers, industry-first Smart Pure Air purifier, and connected car tech UVO with 37 features, six airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchor, Vehicle Stability Management, Electronic Speed Control, front and rear parking sensors, ABS, Break Force Assist System, Hill-start Assist Control, 360 Degree camera.

As far as engines are concerned, the new Citroen C5 AirCross comes in a single powertrain option which is a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, diesel engine. The motor is tuned to make 174 bhp and 400 Nm of power figures. Interestingly, the oil burner is the most powerful of the lot, which comes mated to an 8-speed torque converter unit as standard. Unlike the C5 AirCross, the other three rivals are offered in both petrol and diesel versions. Hyundai Tucson's 2.0-litre petrol motor develops 150 bhp and 192 Nm of power while the 2.0-litre oil burner belts out 182 bhp and 400 Nm. On the other hand, the 2.0-litre mill fitted on the Compass makes 170 bhp and 350 Nm of power figures. The Kia Seltos comes three powertrain options - 1.4-litre GDI turbo petrol, naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre petrol, and 1.5-litre diesel engines. The diesel unit churns out 113 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque and comes mated to the same 6-speed manual gearbox and an optional 6-speed torque converter automatic unit.
The Kia Seltos comes three powertrain options - 1.4-litre GDI turbo petrol, naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre petrol, and 1.5-litre diesel engines.

Coming to prices, we will be looking only at the diesel prices as the Citroen C5 AirCross will be offered in diesel option only. The French automaker is expected to launch its first SUV in India somewhere in the range of Rs. 25 lakh to Rs. 30 lakh (ex-showroom). The lower variants of the Jeep Compass are affordable than the Hyundai Tucson. However, the most affordable of the lot is Kia's Seltos SUV which is priced from Rs. 10.34 lakh, going up to Rs. 17.34 lakh (diesel) (all prices, ex-showroom, Delhi).
