Indian Motorcycle launched three new motorcycles today - Chief Dark Horse, Chief Bobber Dark Horse and the Super Chief Limited. All three motorcycles belong to Indian's 2022 Chief range. Prices for these motorcycles start at Rs. 20.75 lakh (ex-showroom). Pre-bookings for the motorcycle began a few weeks ago for a payment of Rs. 3 lakh. All three motorcycles are based on the same new platform and offer slightly different flavours of the classic American V-twin, with each positioned to cater to the tastes of a different rider. All three bikes in the Chief line-up have slightly different ergonomics, but based on the same engine and frame. Prices for the entire line-up are given in the table below.

All three models of the Indian Chief line-up are powered by a BS6 compliant version of the Indian Thunder Stroke 116 V-twin engine that displaces 1,890 cc, and makes 162 Nm of peak torque. The rear cylinder can be deactivated when the motorcycle is cruising and may not need excessive power. The frame is a classic steel welded tube frame, and all three models will share a 15-litre fuel tank, bobbed rear fender, dual outboard preload-adjustable rear shock absorbers, dual exhaust, LED lighting, keyless ignition Pirelli Night Dragon tyres. The Indian Chief line-up will also get standard cruise control, and three riding modes, sport, standard, or tour and 4-inch circular touchscreen instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity and navigation.

The Indian Chief is a stripped down, minimalist cruiser. It gets drag handlebars, 19-inch cast wheels and a solo bobber seat. The Chief Bobber gets a mini-ape handlebar, giving it an old-school look, 16-inch wire spoke wheels and fork and shock covers. The Super Chief is the touring oriented motorcycle which gets fitments like quick release windscreen, leather saddlebags, touring seat with a large passenger pad, floorboards and traditional cruiser-style handlebars.

Featuring a short wheelbase of 1626 mm, a low seat height of 662 mm and a wet weight as low as 304 kg, the Indian Chief line-up is likely to inspire confidence for most riders. The Chief's conventional 46mm front forks with 132 mm of travel, 28.5-degree lean angle, and comfortable ergonomic make for a comfortable cruising machine.
