BMW And Daimler Mobility Joint Venture To Be Based In Berlin

A few months ago, BMW and Daimler announced that the two luxury auto giants would form a joint venture to develop new global mobility solutions. And now, there has been progressing on that front with both automakers announcing that the headquarters of this new company would be based out of the German capital city of Berlin. While BMW is based out of Munich and Daimler is based out of Stuttgart, Berlin has been selected as a more neutral ground for the two companies and also because of the city's forward-thinking policy on cleaner mobility. The joint venture for mobility solutions has also officially been filed with the European Commission.
Speaking on the progress made between the two automakers, Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and head of Mercedes-Benz Cars said, "Our vision is to create a major global player for seamless and intelligent connected mobility services together. As a hub for creativity and innovation, Berlin is exactly the right location for our plans."
Harald Kruger, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG also added, "The future of mobility is being shaped in major cities like Berlin. With the ecosystem we are planning, we will create solutions for tomorrow's urban mobility: intelligent, seamlessly connected and available at the tap of a finger. We believe this will improve the quality of life in major cities."
With this joint venture, BMW and Daimler aim to provide their customers a 'holistic ecosystem of intelligent, seamlessly connected mobility services, available at the tap of a finger.' Essentially, what this will include is the likes of ride-sharing or car sharing especially considering the fact that traditional ownership of cars in the future might be a concept that won't be used often. The two automakers are also working on solutions for electric car charging infrastructure and of course, parking for a new generation of smart cars.
