Chinese Brand Benda Reveals V4 Engine Cruiser

- The Benda BD500 is China's first V4 engine motorcycle
- Last year, Benda announced two V4 engines
- The BD500 uses the smaller 496 cc V4 engine
Chinese motorcycle manufacturer revealed two V4 engines last year, an 1198 cc version and a 496 cc version, and now type approval filings reveal the first bike to carry one of those engines, the Benda BD500. As the name suggests, the Benda BD500 carries the smaller 496 cc engine, and according to type approval documents, it makes 53 bhp and will have a top speed of 190 kmph. The BD500 will have a kerb weight of 241 kg, and a wheelbase of 1474 mm.

The bike has typical cruiser styling and appears to house a single, round instrument console, although it could house a smaller LCD console inside, considering Chinese manufacturers set a lot of store with features and screens. The bike’s frame appears to be cast alloy, but the V4 engine is naturally the star of the show, making the BD500 the first motorcycle from China to sport a V4 engine, an engine architecture usually employed by high-performance models, particularly from Italian brands, like the Ducati Panigale V4, Multistrada V4, Streetfighter V4 and the Aprilia Tuono V4 or the Aprilia RSV4.
Benda has a full-colour LCD screen, which could be used in the BD500, although the housing shows a circular instrument pod.

The BD500 features the smaller of the two V4 units announced by Benda, and looks physically identical to the bigger 1,198 cc version. But it’s the bigger unit which promises more performance, with a claimed 151.5 bhp at 9,500 rpm, and if it debuts in that state of tune, it will likely be the most powerful made-in-China motorcycle. At this point of time, what’s unclear is what kind of motorcycle the bigger engine will come with. We expect a similar power-cruiser kind of model to use the bigger, more powerful 1,198 cc V4 engine. More details are expected in the next couple of months.
