    Daimler India Commercial Vehicles Pvt. Ltd (DICV), the 100% wholly-owned subsidiary of the commercial vehicle manufacturer Daimler AG, today held the foundation laying ceremony for its new bus manufacturing plant at its existing DICV manufacturing unit located in Oragadam near Chennai.

    Spread across 27 acres, the new plant will be constructed within the existing premises of DICV which currently manufactures trucks. The bus plant will manufacture and assemble buses under the Mercedes-Benz and Bharat Benz brands.

    The plant will be ready by the 2nd quarter next year and will be capable of manufacturing the 9tonne, 16 tonne and above 16 tonne categories of buses in both front and rear engine configurations. With a total investment of Rs. 425 crore, the plant will initially have an installed capacity of 1500 units, which will be later expanded to 4000 units.
