Datsun India has launched its first offering in India - the GO hatchback Prices start from Rs. 3.12 lakhs(ex-showroom Delhi) and the top end variant will have a sticker price of Rs. 3.7 lakhs. Datsun says that extensive work has been invested in the car after going to the customers and getting their feedback.
Carlos Ghosn, in July 2013, announced the revival of the Datsun brand to the global audience and the GO hatch was the first product that was revealed at the event. The GO will be available in three trims - D, A and T - and none of the variants get safety equipment like ABS or Airbags.
The GO gets a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine which is carried over from the Nissan Micra. With 68bhp at its disposal, the GO is the most powerful hatchback in this segment. However, Datsun has tuned the engine for better fuel efficiency and the company claims that the Datsun GO will return 20.63 km/l - just below the Hyundai Eon but importantly above the Maruti Suzuki Alto in the fuel economy charts. The claimed figure for a naught-to-hundred sprint for the GO is 13.3 seconds.
The GO also gets some first-in-segment features like Follow-Me-Home headlamp activation system that automatically switches off after a pre-set time. The top-end variant gets a very plain head unit that's got an aux-in jack and a USB. And no, the USB doesn't play your music; it's there just to charge your electronic device. And there's a mobile phone holder - that is offered as an accessory.
Datsun will piggy-back-ride on the 125 Nissan dealerships in India which will look after the sales and service departments.
We've driven the GO and here is our review of the car. There are also a few pictures for you to browse through about what to expect from the GO.
Here are the variant-wise prices of the GO:
D -3, 12270 lakhs
A- 3, 46482 lakhs
T- 3, 69999 lakhs
