Datsun redi-GO: What You Need to Know

- redi-GO marks Datsun's entry into the entry-level hatchback segment
- It is based on the same platform as the Renault Kwid
- Datsun redi-GO gets segment-leading ground clearance of 185mm
Datsun redi-GO was launched in India on 7 June at a starting price of Rs. 2.38 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Datsun's latest car is based on the CMF-A platform and is offered in 5 variants, namely, D, A, T, T (O), and S. The redi-GO, first showcased as a concept at the 2014 Auto Expo, marks the Japanese carmaker's entry into the entry-level hatchback segment where it will face plenty of competition from well-established names.
Here's all you need to know about the Datsun redi-GO.
1. Produced at the Renault-Nissan alliance's facility in Oragadam, Tamil Nadu, the Datsun Redi Go hatchback is based on the alliance's CMF-A platform that also underpins Renault Kwid.

2. It measures 3,429mm in length, 1,560mm in width, 1,541mm in height and sports a wheelbase of 2,348mm. The hatchback also offers a segment-leading ground clearance of 185mm.
3. As we noted in our review, the redi-GO's front-end comprises a short bonnet, hexagonal grille, and furrowed, big head-lamps, sculpted bumpers with a faux skid plate, and DRL strips.
4. Unlike its French cousin, the Renault Kwid, Datsun's entry-level hatchback sports a tallboy stance, and gets a high-mounted rear windscreen, boomerang-shaped tail-lamps, and the chrome lip on the boot to round up its urban cross 'Yukan' (Japanese for brave & bold) design.

5. Datsun Redi GO gets a clean cabin and is offered with the all the essentials, including a 2-DIN audio system, USB and AUX connectivity, CD player, two speakers, power steering and front power windows on the range-topping trim. The top-end trim also features daytime running lamps.
6. For safety, the driver side airbag is offered as standard across the Datsun Redi GO range.

7. It comes powered by a 799cc three-cylinder petrol engine that develops 53bhp and 72Nm of torque. For transmission, it is currently offered with only a 5-speed manual gearbox. With that being said, Datsun is likely to introduce an AMT gearbox on the redi-GO later.
8. Its fuel-efficiency is rated at 25.17Km/l.
