The Delhi traffic police have revised the maximum speed limit for different vehicles that ply on the roads of the nation's capital city. According to a gazetted notice from the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police: Traffic (Mod.), Delhi, the maximum speed limit for all passenger cars have been limited to 70 kmph or less, for two-wheelers it's 60 kmph or less, and for all public and goods transport vehicles the limit has been set at 40 kmph or less. The speed limits will vary based on different roads in the city.

The notice signed by Satyawan Gautam, Deputy Commissioner of Police/Traffic (Modernisation) said, "it is necessary to regulate the speed of motor vehicles on the roads of NCT of Delhi for the safety of motorists as well as other road users." The government has also announced a heavy fine for violating the speed limit. The speed limit for public and goods transport vehicle like three-wheelers, buses and trucks are now down to 40 kmph across the city, and on small roads, and within residential areas, it's down to 30 kmph for all vehicles.

As for the other three categories of vehicle, the speed limit on NH48, that is from Parade Road / Gurgaon Road Crossing to Delhi Gurgaon Border, the DND flyover, and NH44 (Singhu Border to Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar) has been brought down to 70 kmph for all passenger vehicle, which is a 9 seater or less. The speed limit on the same section for two-wheelers and LMVs that are 10-seater or more, has come down to 60 kmph. The speed limit on the same NH44, from Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar to Mukarba Chowk, and later from Mukarba Chowk to Azadpur Chowk, has been set at 60 kmph and 50 kmph, respectively, for all three categories of vehicle.

On small roads, and within residential areas, the speed limit is down to 30 kmph, for all vehicles

On the Barapulla Nallah Road, the limit is again 60 kmph, whereas on the Noida Toll Road it's 70 kmph for PVs and 60 kmph for two-wheelers and vans. On other toll roads, the limit is set at 50 kmph. On all loops and flyovers, the speed limit has been set at 40 kmph, and in small roads, and within residential areas, it's down to 30 kmph, for all vehicles. The limit around airport roads has been set at 60 kmph, while for all arterial roads in areas between Ring Road and Outer Ring Road, beyond Outer Ring Road, inside Ring Road and the entire Trans Yamuna area the speed limit is 50 kmph, for passenger vehicles and two-wheelers.
