Facelifted Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Launched; Priced at Rs. 5.99 Lakhs

Just in time for Dussehra-Diwali sales, Maruti Suzuki has launched the facelifted Ertiga MPV. The car has been given a makeover and also gets a host of features - all designed very specifically to appeal to the individual buyer it seems. The car gets a new face, accentuated by a lot of chrome and two new colours - Beige and new blue.

The styling treatment is more in line with the S-Cross now, especially the large chrome grille. The idea is to start to create an identity for Maruti Suzuki utility vehicles - which will serve the next model that's coming in that lineup well. That of course will be the compact SUV that arrives in 2016.
The new Ertiga retains its proportions, and headlamps, but also gets chrome accents around the fog lamp housing. The whole effect does make the car look wider and bigger than before, which will also help on the fleet sales side of things, as the last Innova facelift has also widened the front grille with more chrome. The rear gets the Ertiga name embossed into the rear door, which is different for sure.

Besides the exterior changes, the Ertiga also gets a new addition - the SHVS or Smart Hybrid diesel. The option will be standard with the DDiS 200 (diesel) engine variants, and is borrowed from the Ciaz. This is not a conventional hybrid of course and so uses an integrated starter generator, which has an inbuilt motor that supplements the engine's power, and boosts fuel efficiency by 18% to 24.52 kmpl. Maruti says the petrol K14B engine has also been reworked and now offers 17.5 kmpl which is up 9% from before. The SHVS system uses start-stop and brake energy recuperation to enhance mileage.

Also borrowed from the Ciaz is the SmartPlay infotainment system, which includes a touchscreen, Bluetooth functionality, navigation and a reverse camera. Perhaps most significant is the addition of an option of safety features on the base variant. This means even those buying the entry variant of the Ertiga can now additionally add-on dual airbags ABS with EBD and seatbelts with pre-tensioners and force limiters.

The car's interior gets a new fabric treatment, and the 3rd row seat now gets a 50:50 split for added convenience. The safety option adds Rs 35,000 to the base trim's Rs. 5.99 lakh price tag. It is worth mentioning that a driver-side airbag is now standard on the base trim anyway. Prices for the revised Ertiga (Rs 5.99-9.25 lakh ex-showroom Delhi) are marginally higher, and in true Maruti style these prices are introductory!
