Fuel Prices Hiked For Second Straight Day; Petrol Nears Rs. 109/Litre Mark In Mumbai

The state-run oil marketing companies (OMCs) on Wednesday hiked fuel rates for the second consecutive day. With new prices coming into effect, the petrol and diesel prices have touched all-time highs across the country. According to details listed on IndianOil's official website, petrol and diesel in Delhi became dearer by 30 paise a litre and 35 paise a litre, respectively. Customers in Delhi will have to pay Rs. 102.94 a litre for petrol and Rs. 91.42 a litre for diesel. In Mumbai, petrol is inching towards the 109-mark, currently priced at Rs. 108.96 a litre while diesel costs Rs. 99.17 a litre.

Petrol retail price above Rs. 114 per litre mark in Sri Ganganagar & Anuppur
Here are the petrol and diesel prices across six major metros on October 6, 2021:

As for the other metros, petrol prices in Chennai stand at Rs. 100.49 a litre, receiving a hike of 26 paise, whereas diesel rates in the city touched at Rs. 95.93 a litre, after a hike of 34 paise. In Kolkata, petrol prices jumped to Rs. 103.65 a litre, after a price hike of 29 paise, while diesel rates touched Rs. 94.53 per litre, receiving a hike of 36 paise. At the same time, in Bengaluru, petrol reached Rs. 106.52 per litre, while diesel prices reached Rs. 97.03 per litre. The two auto fuels in Hyderabad stand at Rs. 107.09 a litre and Rs. 99.75 a litre, respectively.

Changes in fuel prices are implemented at 6 am every day by India's oil marketing companies
Fuel prices are the most expensive in Rajasthan's Sri Ganganagar as customers now have to pay Rs. 114.92 a litre for petrol and Rs. 105.35 a litre for diesel. Petrol in Anuppur has touched Rs. 114.27 per litre while diesel has breached Rs. 103 mark, retailing at Rs. 103.03 per litre. Customers in Bhopal now have to shell out Rs. 111.45 a litre for petrol and Rs. 100.42 a litre for diesel. In Madhya Pradesh's Rewa district, the two auto fuels have soared to Rs. 113.87 a litre and Rs. 102.67 a litre. Petrol prices in the Parbhani district of Maharashtra have jumped to Rs. 111.52 a litre from Rs. 111.23 a litre, seeing a hike of 29 paise. Diesel, on the other hand, has surpassed the Rs. 100-mark currently priced at Rs. 100.12 a litre.
Fuel rates vary from state to state based on the incidence of local sales tax or VAT. Indian Oil Corporation, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, and Bharat Petroleum Corporation are the country's three major oil marketing firms, and they revise fuel rates on a daily basis.
