Honda BR-V Gets 5-Star Rating in ASEAN NCAP Crash Test

    New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) today released its latest results for Honda BR-V crossover-SUV giving it a 5-Star rating. Based on ASEAN NCAP prerequisites, the new Honda BR-V with Electronic Stability Control and Seatbelt Reminder System (SBR) bagged 5-Stars in the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP). On the other hand variants that did not come fitted with these technologies received a 4-Star rating in AOP.

    Apparently the Honda BR-V scored a total of 14.79 points out of 16 in the Adult Occupant Protection test. Though with this score the SUV is eligible for a 4-Star rating, the addition of ESC and SBR aided the specific variants to receive a 5-Star rating. At the same time for the Child Occupant Protection (COP), all Honda BR-V met 72% compliance of the test, hence achieved a 4-Star rating even the once with ESC and SBR.

    ASEAN NCAP Chairman, Prof. Dr. Wong Shaw Voon commented that, "It is notable that a number of cars entering the ASEAN markets are now equipped with more safety features. Honda BR-V is one of them. We at ASEAN NCAP hope our work has made significant impact to raise consumer awareness to demand safer cars for the ASEAN market." ASEAN NCAP Secretary-General, Mr. Khairil Anwar Abu Kassim said, "It should be noted that only BR-V's higher variants are equipped with ESC and SBR for dual frontal occupants. Nevertheless, we are aiming for the lowest variant to be equipped with similar technologies in order for everyone to benefit these safety features."

    Honda BR-V is the third SUV model under the Honda brand to the tested by ASEAN NCAP. Judging by the fact the fact that the cars have been tested for all the Asian markets, it quite likely that it is the same model that will come to India. Although some of the features that will be a part of the India-bound model include - dual SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Hill Start Assist (HAS), etc.

    Under the hood, the Honda BR-V will be powered by a 1.5-litre SOHC, 4-cylinder, 16-valve i-VTEC engine that churns out a maximum of 117bhp and a peak torque of 146 Nm. The SUV will also feature a 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel unit that powers the City and Mobilio, producing 99bhp of power and 200Nm of torque. Transmission options will include Honda's signature CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) gearbox along with a 5-speed unit.
