Honda Cars India has just updated its smallest offering in the country, launching the Brio facelift priced at Rs. 4.69 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Launched in 2011, this is the first major upgrade to the hatchback in the country and gets revised styling in-line with the Amaze and Mobilio cars that are based on the same platform, while the interior has been upgraded with a new look and improved features.
Without straying too far from the outgoing model, the Honda Brio facelift now gets a wide new High-Gloss Black and Chrome finished front grille and redesigned bumper that gets larger air intakes with honeycomb mesh. At the rear, the updated hatchback gets a new and elegant tail light and an all-new tailgate Spoiler with high mounted LED Stop-Lamp.
Inside, the cabin gets reworked and is now similar to the one seen on the Amaze facelift. You now get a premium looking instrument panel with carbon finish and silver accents, while the air-con vents have been redesigned for a new look. You also get new triple analog sporty metre with white Illumination that adds to the Brio's sporty quotient.
Talking about features, the Honda Brio facelift now comes with an Advanced 2 DIN Integrated Audio (USB and Aux-in) with Bluetooth connectivity. There are now digital AC controls with Max Cool function, while the seats are done up in premium beige and black (for the top variant) fabric upholstery to maintain the sporty and premium appeal.
Power continues to come from the four-cylinder 1.2-litre i-VTEC engine on the Honda Brio facelift tuned to produce a maximum of 87bhp at 6000rpm and 109Nm of torque at 4500rpm. The Brio comes with 5-speed manual and 5-speed automatic transmission options that return a fuel economy of 18.5 km/ l and 16.5 km/l respectively, as per test data. The company is offering the hatchback in five colour options - Taffeta White, Alabaster Sliver, Urban Titanium, Rally Red and White Orchid Pearl (available at a Rs. 4000 premium).
As for safety tech, the Brio facelift features host of Honda’s active and passive safety technologies including Dual SRS airbags, ABS and EBD, Seat Belt Pretensioners with load limiters and Impact mitigating headrests. The front body structure of the Brio is equipped with Pedestrian Injury Mitigation Technology designed to absorb impact energy. That said, the features are not standard on all variants.
Talking about the new Honda Brio, Mr. Yoichiro Ueno, President and CEO, Honda Cars India said, “The Brio remains an embodiment of Honda’s engineering prowess and manufacturing excellence. Brio has the distinction of being the Industry Topper in Quality scoring No1 position in the J D Power IQS results year after year. The car is not just ‘made for the people’ but ‘made around the people’. The new Brio is an all-rounder - spacious, comfortable, looks good, has a fabulous effective engine, and delivers great fuel economy.”
Honda has sold over 87,000 units of the Brio so far in India, which is far from remarkable in the highly competitive hatchback segment and the company is hoping that the updated model will be able to strike a chord with younger buyers.
The Honda Brio comes with the standard 2 year/ 40,000 kms warranty.
