Hyundai Santro Spotted Testing In India Again

- The 2018 Hyundai Santro is codenamed Hyundai AH2 internally
- The new Santro will borrow styling cues from the Grand i10 facelift
- The new Hyundai Santro will be launched in India around Diwali
Another test mule of Hyundai's upcoming small car was recently spotted in India. Expected to be christened the Hyundai Santro, the near-production prototype model is still heavily camouflaged and here we only get a view of the rear section of the car. The enthusiast who clicked these images claims that the car was being benchmarked alongside a Maruti Suzuki Celerio, which is also partially visible in one of these images. While Hyundai has been quite tight-lipped about this new car, the upcoming all-new Hyundai Santro is expected to be launched in India around the festive season and will rival the likes of Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Tata Tiago, and Renault Kwid.

This is not the first time that the Hyundai Santro prototype has been spotted testing in India. In fact, it was just a couple of weeks ago that one of our viewers spotted the camouflaged Santro test mule doing the rounds of the national capital. While we might not be able to comment on the new styling and design, we know that the new-gen Hyundai Santro will be based on the company's Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language, and shares several of its cues with the Grand i10 and the now discontinued i10. Like the older Santro, the car still carries its tall boy stance and is expected to be a bit more upmarket.

Hyundai has been testing the new Santro in India for a while now
We are yet to see an image of the new cabin, but the enthusiast who took these latest images claims that the car will come with a large analogue instrument cluster and will also get an analogue tachometer. Among other features, we expect the new Santro to come with a more premium and modern-looking cabin and possibly a touchscreen infotainment system in the top-end model.

While it's too soon to comment on engine options, the upcoming Hyundai Santro is likely to come with a 0.8-litre and a 1.0-litre petrol engine on offers. Rumour has it that a diesel option will be coming at a later stage, in which case, the Santro will be the only model in its class to get one. The engines will most likely be mated to a 5-Speed manual gearbox and Hyundai might through in an AMT version as well.
