India Bound Renault Captur: Things You Need To Know

- The exact date of the Renault Captur launch will be revealed later
- It will be built on the same platform as the Duster
- The Captur will go up against the likes of Hyundai Creta and Jeep Compass
As we reported earlier, the Renault Captur launch in India has been confirmed for November 6. The Captur has been quite some time in coming. Renault as a company has always had an anchor model of sorts which has done really well in the market. Earlier, it was the Duster, then it was the Kwid and now Renault has pinned its hopes on the upcoming Captur. The Captur is essentially a SUV/Crossover, which will go up against the likes of Hyundai Creta and the Jeep Compass. It will be positioned around the Duster, maybe at a premium. The Captur is known as Kaptur in Russian and Latin American markets but Renault decided to go with the Global nomenclature in India.

So here is everything that you need to know about the upcoming Renault Captur Launch in India.
Platform
Just so you know, the Captur and the Kaptur are two different models. The Kaptur (Captur in India) is based on the Renault Duster platform and is mainly for developing markets while the Captur (in Europe) is based on the Renault Clio platform and is for developed markets. The good bit is that Renault has been able to maximise localisation on the Duster platform, which means that the Captur too will have a decent degree of localisation and it will only go on to increase in the future. This means that the cost benefit will be passed on to the final customer.

The Renault Captur is expected to get the same 1.5-litre petrol and the 1.5-litre K9K engines which are already used in the Duster. We do believe that there will be some tweaking to the engines and they will be re-tuned to offer slightly more power. According to some reports, Renault will launch the Captur in India with just a manual transmission first. In due course of time, the company might introduce an AMT version and/or an AWD version of the Captur.
Testing
The Renault Captur has already been spotted testing in India a few times and which is why the company has confirmed the launch of Captur in India. We believe that the testing phase for the Captur is coming to a close and the company is ready to launch the car in India.

Competition
The Renault Captur will be going up against the likes of Hyundai Creta and the newly launched Jeep Compass. This means that it will be positioned slightly higher than the Duster, with of course some models overlapping each other. The Captur is expected to be feature rich which will only help it to stand up against the competition.
Pricing
We expect the pricing for the Captur to start at Rs. 11 lakh and go up to Rs. 16 lakh or so (ex-showroom). Of course, this is just an educated guess and a wide range of prices. We would love to be surprised by Renault. The company will shed more light on the Captur in the coming months and we will update you with the same as soon as we get it.
