Le Mans MotoGP 2016 Race Report: Lorenzo Dominates With Podium Finish

- Lorenzo now holds more lead points for the ultimate championship title
- Rossi made a grand comeback from 7th to the 2nd position
- Both Ducati factory riders crashed ending their run in the French GP
Rossi managed to make a big comeback to the second position and scoring 20 important points after troubled practice and qualifying sessions and being pushed to the seventh spot at the opening lap. Nevertheless, Lorenzo had gone far ahead and dominated the race with a significant lead for the remainder of the race. Marc Marquez had a poor start right from the beginning, but managed get aggressive in the following laps and battled for the second spot with Rossi closing in on Ducati rider Dovizioso.
However, both Dovizioso and Marquez fell almost in synchronized fashion at the Chemin aux Boeufs chicane. Marquez did manage to get going again and eventually completed the race in 13th place, salvaging a few points. That said, the Spaniard ended up losing his title lead to Lorenzo with the latter scoring more points.
Initially, things were looking up for Ducati with both riders in second and third position behind Lorenzo but soon took a turn for the worse, with both riders crashing out. While Andrea Iannone looked promising at one point closing in on Lorenzo, the Italian rider met with a disaster as he went down on lap seven. Eventually, Iannone returned to the race but was forced into the pits.
Lorenzo's victory has shifted the power in MotoGP aggressively, especially with Marquez losing his advantage in terms of lead points. That said, things are only going to get more exciting at Mugello, which happens to be be favoured by the current world champion. Moreover, the track could also prove to be a redeemer for Ducati with the team having spent quality time at the track testing. The Le Mans MotoGP also reported better tyres from Michelin, which had come with three rear tyre options. The tyres managed to provide more grip during the race, contrary to the issues of wheel spin faced at Jerez.
