Made In India Range Rover Velar Spotted Testing

- The locally assembled Velar has been spotted for the first time in India.
- The Made-in-India Range Rover Velar will be more affordable than the CBU.
- It's expected to launch in India in the first-half of 2019.
carandbike had reported last year that Land Rover is set to assemble the Range Rover Velar locally as the company is steadily increasing its locally assembled portfolio in India. And the Made in India Range Rover Velar has been spotted doing rounds in Bangalore and is likely to join Jaguar Land Rover's CKD line-up soon. The local assembly will also make the Velar more affordable in India as we had seen that happening earlier when the F-Pace moved to the local assembly. However, Jaguar Land Rover India has denied sharing any detail of its future models.

Prices of the Jaguar F-Pace were dropped by a whopping Rs. 20 lakh when its production started in India. In the last four years, JLR has localized six models of its India line-up including the Jaguar F-Pace, Jaguar XJ, Range Rover Evoque, Land Rover Discovery Sport, Jaguar XE and its flagship sedan the Jaguar XJ. Like these models, even the Range Rover Velar will be manufactured at JLR's Maharashtra plant which is located in the outskirts of Pune. According to our previous report, the Land Rover Discovery is the next model which will take the CKD route in India.
The Velar is sold in India in a vast range of 25 variants across petrol and diesel and with a wide variety of trims. The Range Rover Velar currently starts at Rs. 83.34 lakh and tops off at Rs. 1.45 Crore which is likely to come down by Rs. 10 lakh to Rs. 15 lakh after it gets localized. The diesel Range Rover Velar is offered with two engine options. First is the 2.0 Litre, four-cylinder engine that produces 178 bhp and 430 Nm of peak torque in the base D180 trim while the top-notch D300 variant which gets a 3.0 Litre V6 motor that produces 296 bhp and a hefty 700 Nm of peak torque.
