Maserati Grecale Continues Winter Testing Ahead Of Global Debut

- The semi-conductor chip shortage delayed the market debut of the Grecale.
- Maserati revealed a few details of the upcoming Porsche Macan rival.
- Expect a March debut now.
We've been waiting for the Maserati Grecale for the past few months, and even came close to seeing one in November, although, the semi-conductor chip shortage delayed its market debut. However, that did not deter the engineers at Modena to keep testing the Grecale even further, and this time, the Italian carmaker themselves revealed a camouflage version of the SUV crossover, revealing a few details of the upcoming Porsche Macan rival. After all, we wouldn't want Maserati to miss out on any of the specifics of the Grecale now, would we?

Taking advantage of the delay, Maserati put the Grecale through its paces in Lapland, Finland, as it underwent snow and ice cycles to fine-tune its start-up and driveability at extreme temperatures.

Taking advantage of the delay, Maserati put the Grecale through its paces in Lapland, Finland, as it underwent snow and ice cycles to fine-tune its start-up and driveability at extreme temperatures, to check the vehicle dynamics on mixed surfaces of tarmac, and to maintain in-car comfort in all weather conditions, varying from a few degrees above zero to as low as -30°C. Tests were also carried out to fine-tune the car's traction, understeer, and oversteer in different drive modes and with varying sizes and types of wheels, to distinguish each of the driving modes.
The photos revealed by Maserati, as we already said once before, were camouflaged with windows tinted to hide the interior. However, a few spy shots from a few days ago, uncovered it completely, revealing its horizontal dashboard design and dual-screen infotainment layout. Moving under the hood, the Maserati Grecale will be offered in a range of powertrain options, including a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged unit with hybrid tech, as well as a high-performance 2.9-litre V6, twin-turbo unit for the Grecale Trofeo, which will make its debut either with the Grecale or at a later stage. Although unconfirmed, the Maserati Grecale will also support diesel engines, but the details on this are still limited.

To be built at the Cassino plant in Italy, the new Grecale will be Maserati's second SUV after the Levante in its line-up and will be a younger sibling to the flagship Maserati Levante SUV. Apart from the signature Trident on the grille up front, the Maserati Grecale will also sport aggressive-looking intakes, MC20-style LED headlights, slim LED taillights, and various types and sizes of wheels. The Maserati Grecale is built on the same Alfa Romeo Giorgio platform that also underpins the Alfa Romeo Stelvio.
