It has been a slow and steady reveal. First the interiors, then the body and now what will power the beast. Mercedes-Benz has disclosed full details about the engine which will power the upcoming AMG GT.

There were rumours doing the rounds that the AMG GT will feature a 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo engine and well it's true. The massive engine will be capable of churning 510bhp at 6,250rpm and a maximum torque of 650 Nm between 1,750 rpm and 4,750 rpm.

Codenamed M178, this Euro 6-compliant engine weighs in at 209 kgs and benefits from lightweight pistons and twin overhead camshafts while the flow-optimized cylinder heads feature zirconium alloy for optimal temperature and thermal conductivity.

There have been significant changes made too like the cylinder walls have been lined with a nano-slide coating in order to diminish friction losses and there's no need for a conventional oil pan as the engineers used a dry sump lubrication technology.

We reckon, Mercedes will use the same engine under the hood of the upcoming C63 AMG but we will see it first on the AMG GT which will see the light of day soon.
