Mercedes-Benz India has been the leading luxury carmaker in the country and is strategising to maintain its dominance yet again this year. The German carmaker which had plans to introduce 15 new models in India, before the nation was gripped by the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, is working to stick to its original plans, and making its product offensive even more robust. Mercedes-Benz India is sticking with its original plan.

Now to begin with, Mercedes-Benz India started the year with launch of the much-awaited entry-level A-Class sedan and a comprehensively updated E-Class sedan as well, which also happens to be its bestselling model in our market. Then, the new Mercedes-Benz GLA entry-level compact SUV too went on sale in India recently and up next are some of the high-realisation models the company is planning to introduce. The Mercedes-Maybach GLS flagship SUV is going on sale just next week and we expect its flagship sedan - the extensively updated new-generation S-Class to hit the market in the next quarter. Then, the lucrative AMG range is also likely to see few updates and we expect 2021 model year GT range arriving to our market as well this year.

Last year, quite a few launch plans across the industry were deferred due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis which did impact sales to a certain extent. That goes for Mercedes-Benz India as the company was planning to launch volume garnering models like the A-Class and GLA last year itself. So this year, the company is planning to increase the pace of its business and see if a robust product line-up could help the company cash in on the pent up demand and make up for lost volumes in previous months when many key market in India like Maharashtra, Delhi-NCR and Karnataka among others were under partial lockdown. Buyers' sentiments in general were low during the period and people were advised to step out of home only for essentials, further taking a toll on auto sales.
