Mercedes-Benz Issues A Recall Of Nearly 1 Million Vehicles Globally Foreseeing A Brake Issue

- Mercedes-Benz has recalled 9,93,407 units to check their brakes.
- It consists of 3 models, ML-Class, GL-Class, & R-Class.
- Consists of vehicles manufactured between 2004 and 2015.
Mercedes-Benz has issued a global recall for 3 of its models produced between the years 2004 to 2015. The models in question are the second-gen Mercedes-Benz ML-Class (W164), first-gen GL-Class (X164) and the R-Class (W251), and as many as 9,93,407 units are reportedly being recalled.

The first-generation GL Class is also a part of the recall.
The reason for the recall for close to a million cars is reportedly an issue with the braking system. A statement issued by the company said "We have found that in some of those vehicles, the function of the brake booster could be affected by advanced corrosion in the joint area of the housing".
Since all the 3 models in question were sold in India at some point in time, a recall may be issued in India too. It however remains unclear as to which of the units sold in India will be recalled. We have reached out to Mercedes-Benz India for an official statement, and the German car manufacturer has said that it will be issuing a statement soon.

Mercedes-Benz R-Class luxury MPV was sold in India in limited numbers.
Mercedes-Benz Group AG will be commencing the global recall 'immediately', which will involve contacting owners, inspecting vehicles and replacing damaged parts if required. Mercedes-Benz had also recalled almost 1.3 million cars in the US in February last year, and the recalled units were sold between 2018 and 2019. The recall was issued to fix a faulty emergency call system, which was fixable with an over-the-air (OTA) update or at the dealership.
