Key Highlights
  • New Honda Hornet to be powered by 755 cc parallel-twin engine
  • New mid-size platform to support a family of new bikes
  • Upcoming Honda Transalp also likely to be based on same platform

Honda has revealed official concept sketches of the upcoming all-new Honda Hornet, which the Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer announced in November 2021 at the EICMA show in Milan. The new Hornet (not to be confused with the made in India 184 cc Honda Hornet 2.0), revives the name of a naked Honda CB600F originally produced between 1998 and 2006, which later was updated to a 900 cc version. Although the original was powered by a 97 bhp inline four-cylinder engine, the new, re-launched Honda Hornet is likely to get a parallel-twin engine, with displacement of around 750 cc.

The upcoming Honda Hornet will likely be powered by a 750 cc parallel-twin engine

The new 750 cc parallel-twin Honda Hornet is likely to be an all-new platform which will form the base for a new family of bikes, also including a new Honda Transalp, reviving yet another name from Honda's history. The Transalp though will be a mid-size adventure bike, and once that is introduced, there is likely to be an update for the Honda Africa Twin as well, perhaps boasting more features, and maybe even more performance.

The new Honda Hornet will feature a chiselled and sharp design, and will compete with the likes of the Yamaha MT-07

The original Honda Hornet was introduced in Europe in 1998 and was powered by a 599 cc inline four-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. The next-generation Honda Hornet is likely to be revived with a 755 cc parallel-twin motor with possibly a high-revving nature. The new motorcycle could be positioned between the CB500F and the CB650R in the company's line-up when it goes on sale. More details are expected in the coming months, but it's still not clear if Honda decides to introduce the next-generation Hornet in India. Once launched, the new Honda Hornet will go up against the Yamaha MT-07 in international markets.
