New Volvo XC40 To Debut At LA Auto Show

- The XC40 is the smallest & most affordable XC model from Volvo
- Production has started in Volvo Cars' plant in Ghent, Belgium
- Volvo will launch the XC40 in India next year
Swedish car-makers, Volvo, showcased the all new XC40 compact SUV this year in Milan. The XC40, which is the smallest and the most affordable XC model from Volvo, will also be coming to India. However, before it comes to India next year, Volvo will finally give the XC40 its global debut at the upcoming LA Auto Show, to take place at the end of the month. With underpinnings from the XC60 and the XC90, the new XC40 is built on Volvo's CMA (Compact Modular Architecture) platform as opposed to the SPA (Scalable Product Architecture) platform. The new XC40 is also the first model which will underpin all other upcoming cars in the 40 Series including fully electrified vehicles. In Europe, the Volvo XC40 hits the roads early next year.

The new XC40 is the company's third SUV preceded by Volvo's largest SUV, the XC90, and mid-sized XC60. With the introduction of the XC40, Volvo completes its SUV range and offers three of the newest vehicles in their respective segments. At the showcase, Hakan Samuelsson, President and CEO, Volvo Auto said, "The XC40 is our first entry in the small SUV segment, broadening the appeal of the Volvo brand and moving it in a new direction. It represents a fresh, creative and distinctive new member of the Volvo line-up."

At front, Volvo's signature Thor's hammer daytime running lights compliment Volvo's grill. The XC40 has a bold rendition of Scandinavian design and functionality with its panoramic sunroof and integrated LED mood lighting. For safety features, the XC40 comes with pedestrian, cyclist, vehicle and large animal detection with emergency autobrake, Pilot Assist, Run-off Road protection and mitigation, Cross Traffic alert with brake support. It also gets wireless QI mobile phone charging and Bluetooth connectivity with the standard 9-inch Sensus Connect touchscreen and a dedicated cell phone storage space.

The new Volvo XC40 will be available with a T5 four-cylinder Drive-E powertrain with all-wheel drive. Further powertrain options, including a hybridized as well as a pure electric version, will be added later. While bookings commenced in September, production has started in Volvo Cars' plant in Ghent, Belgium from this month.
