Ola Electric Has Let Go Its Quality Assurance Head Amidst Delays In Scooter Delivery

Ola Electric, the electric vehicle arm of Ola Cabs, has recently let go of its Head of Quality Assurance, Joseph Thomas. While the reason for his exit is still unknown, it comes at a time when the company is facing delays in the delivery schedule of its new electric scooters, the S1 and S1 Pro. Reportedly, the company is hiring some senior-level officials for its operations, including safety and quality, at Ola Futurefactory, and consequently, Thomas has been let go. Thomas joined Ola Electric barely a year ago, before which he was part of Renault for 11 years. and previous to that, Ford Motor Company for 9 years.

Earlier in September 2021, Ola announced that it has sold scooters worth Rs. 1,100 crore, and while deliveries were expected to begin in October this year, the company has been postponing the delivery date sighting various challenges. The company's quality assurance head leaving the company at such a crucial moment is certainly a major development, and how it will affect Ola's current delivery schedule is yet to be seen.

Now, Ola has already commenced invite-based test rides for its electric scooters, the Ola S1 and Ola S1 Pro from November 10, 2021. These test rides, which will be with a rider, are in select cities and only those who have paid an advance for the electric scooters. Test rides for the S1 and S1 Pro electric scooters will be offered only in four cities for now, which include Delhi, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Bengaluru. As for deliveries, those are expected to happen in a phased manner, beginning from later this month.

Ola has also postponed the second purchase window for the electric scooter from November 1 to December 16, 2021. The base Ola S1 is priced at Rs. 1 lakh (ex-showroom), while the S1 Pro is priced at Rs. 1.30 lakh (Ex-showroom). Both variants differ in performance, range, number of riding modes, and number of colours, although the basic design is the same.
